Overview
Masjid Umar ibn al-Khattab is another mosque within the Seven Mosques complex, honoring the second Rightly Guided Caliph known for his strength, justice, and decisive leadership. It is a small prayer house nestled among the other mosques on the western side of Mount Sala. Visitors often photograph the striking grouping of all seven mosques from a nearby vantage point.
Historical significance
Umar ibn al-Khattab played a critical role during the siege of Madinah in the Battle of the Trench, patrolling the trench lines and maintaining morale among the Muslim defenders during the grueling weeks-long standoff. His leadership and steadfastness during this testing period foreshadowed his later role as caliph, during which the Islamic state expanded across the Middle East, North Africa, and Persia.

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanah, wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanah, wa qinā ʿadhāb an-nār
Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.
