Battle of the Trench Site

The Battle of the Trench site encompasses the area along the northern and western approaches to ancient Madinah where a massive defensive ditch was excavated. Today, the area is largely urbanized and the trench itself no longer exists, but the Seven Mosques complex and informational markers indicate the general location. The site stretches along the foot of Mount Sala in what is now a developed neighborhood.

Masjid al-Fath

Masjid al-Fath, the Mosque of Victory, is the largest and most prominent of the cluster known as the Seven Mosques situated on the western edge of the Sala mountain. It sits atop a small rocky hill and is recognizable by its bright white dome. The mosque is the centerpiece of the Seven Mosques historical area and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Masjid Salman al-Farsi

Masjid Salman al-Farsi is one of the Seven Mosques cluster, named after the beloved Persian companion Salman al-Farsi. It is a small, simply designed mosque that sits near Masjid al-Fath on the slopes of Mount Sala. Together with the other six mosques, it forms a compact historical complex that can be visited in a single trip.

Masjid Umar ibn al-Khattab

Masjid Umar ibn al-Khattab is another mosque within the Seven Mosques complex, honoring the second Rightly Guided Caliph known for his strength, justice, and decisive leadership. It is a small prayer house nestled among the other mosques on the western side of Mount Sala. Visitors often photograph the striking grouping of all seven mosques from a nearby vantage point.

Masjid Ali ibn Abi Talib

Masjid Ali ibn Abi Talib is one of the Seven Mosques, named after the fourth Rightly Guided Caliph and the Prophet's cousin and son-in-law. It is a compact mosque within the Seven Mosques historical complex on the western slopes of Mount Sala. The mosque has been rebuilt in a clean modern style that complements the surrounding cluster.

Masjid Fatimah az-Zahra

Masjid Fatimah az-Zahra is the smallest of the Seven Mosques, named after the beloved daughter of the Prophet ﷺ and wife of Ali ibn Abi Talib. Despite its modest size, it holds deep emotional significance for visitors who revere the Prophet's family. It sits at the edge of the Seven Mosques complex near the base of Mount Sala.

Mount Sala' (also spelled Sal') is a dark basaltic mountain located in the western part of Madinah, forming a natural barrier along the city's northwestern edge. The mountain stretches about one kilometer in length and features rugged volcanic rock formations. The Seven Mosques are built along its base, making it a backdrop to several important historical sites.

Masjid al-Rayah, the Mosque of the Banner, is perched on the small hill known as Mount Dhubab in the area west of the central Haram zone. It is a compact mosque with historical military significance and offers a slightly elevated view of the surrounding Madinah streets. The mosque's location on a hilltop is itself part of its story.
